I found some pictures of the grass cutter, Atta vollenweideri. It is amazing the impact this species has on the environment where it is found. Great areas are pock marked with their crater like structures. They have carefully arranged holes around the circumference which allow ventillation in to the nest and hot air to rise through the contre. Absolutely amazing species. I will be getting up close and personal with these in May / June. Can't wait.

These grass cutters will make up at least half of the ants I bring back. They are very dominant in the grasslands. After all you can see them from space!

Once my current Atta colony sells, and I've re-designed the setup, I think grass cutters might be a nice different species to keep.

But they will take up much more space...

Don't worry, that's sorted. The spheres design currently is not very space efficient at all but I'm designing a series of custom glass boxes.

Yes, but still, they will need about 30 of those boxes at maturity

I'd like to try something different to Atta cephalotes, so this species sounds good to me.
