Re: New Quantitative Colony Description
Im a newbie to the site and to keeping leaf cutter ants(that new i dont get my colony until Wednesday) but i think the sooner people get to using it the sooner they will be able to use it so it may be best to use it over the whole forum, I will be trying to use it and i wont mind being told if i have got it wrong, to be honest it will save a lot of time when i have got my head around it, but i do think the chart would be very helpful.
ants i keep:-
Atta cephalotes
Polyrhachis dives
Camponotus cruentatus
Camponotus ligniperdus
Camponotus barbaricus
Formica cunicularia
Messor barbarus
Lasius niger

Eloise, that looks nearly perfect. The Fungus garden size is 0 because you cannot see the garden? Might need to look at adding something to the notation that allows for that scenario. When you dig it up to move it eventually, you will know what to put there I guess. Good one.Bitterlime wrote:Ac.oct.mq500.maj.1.(F0).w/G

thanks, yes I put it as 0 because I can't see it at the moment but when I can see it I'll change it! For others who can't see their fungus and don't know the size they could put something that stands for I can't see it.

Re: New Quantitative Colony Description
As a matter of interest, how would you go about estimating the number of ants in your colony?

Re: New Quantitative Colony Description
For me its a matter of blocking. So instead of saying there are 500 ants, I would say the number appears to be somewhere between 500 and a thousand. Noone can check and I think its an impression. I sell really big ant colonies and I say to the customer I think there are around 10000 ants in there. Actually last year I set up such a colony and the customer actually said to me...RichardP wrote:As a matter of interest, how would you go about estimating the number of ants in your colony?
"So how do I know there are actually 10000 ants here that I am paying for. Have I just to take your word for it?"
I said "Yes, pretty much"
