Too much moisture causes the lid to rise, I've used a couple of pound coins in the past or try removing the excess moisture that helps! The pods are used in conjunction with the clay granules to avoid issues with Spring tails and ants gritting the sides. The plaster is a good move forward tho!

Re: AndyJ's Buggery room
So my tank arrived so i could make a foraging area but i can't find my glass hole cutter so had to order another,,, **ssed off grrrr. Anyway i made a temporary alternative in the way of a plastic sweet jar. I wanted the tallness ready to go on holiday so i can stand plants in water so they will last a bit longer.

It's amazing how quick the ants found there way down, it's nice now at last i can watch them in the light and as you can see i have added an IP cam. Not sure if you can seee it at http://hawgs.co.uk/antblog/?page_id=1950
This pic should refresh every hour just incase the stream fails.

Also i have been drying rose petals as these are favourites of my ants for use in the winter months and storing them in sealed plastic tubs. My neighbour has loads and she has just gone in a home so i have been raiding her garden at night
I have been micro waving them for two 60 seconds stints until dry and they have been accepting them, so these could prove useful later. Also been drying Ash leaves in the same manner but these have not been so successful.

Interesting Andy, I wonder if the petal will re-hydrate in water.
I take it once your new tank is drilled etc the viv wont be needed?

Re: AndyJ's Buggery room
The petals have like a rubbery texture so the ants can still cut them, probably not dried completely but they are taking them. I think even crunched up they would take them, oh also some taking weetabix lol. The problem with the viv is that there is no overhead access which makes feeding difficult. I think i will probably get a low cabinet with a top to put a tank on, it's got to be easier. Can you tell me if you could see the web cam as i'm not sure if it's public. Done this so i can check on them whilst on me holidays

Re: AndyJ's Buggery room
Yes it would be a nightmare to feed in there, quite awkward. Clicked the link but could only see the image and not the stream although I am in work so may be the reason.
Unless you have someone who can help while your away I would want to look at cam as if it is going down peet tong then it will ruin your holiday ha ha

A few web cam colonies on here would spice things up? Dont have the first idea about how to go about it. Can anyone post some info or a link for it? I could start setting them up in public displays. Be good for my website also. Imagine a web cam on 5 sisters colony! Would love to see your colony on Web cam , Andy. We could all watch it go to ruin while you are on holiday!?$%*&

Yea cheers Bob, i'm only going to France so i can nip home should something go wrong
So i have been struggling to get this going so by the time there's something worth watching i should have it sorted. The pic now is live and refreshed every 60 seconds even when my PC is turned off unlike my first attempt above. The link is the stream which is pretty nail biting stuff.....not,,,, but it will be

Re: AndyJ's Buggery room
The pic you see on the forum refreshes every 60 seconds but you have to refresh the forum page as well. The link goes to the live cam stream which is the top image on the page. Presently busy cutting bramble but perhaps a macro lense would be better.
