Trials and prototypes

Post your builds, private or commercial set ups. This is where we will document the creation of housing or the planning and construction of projects from scratch. This differs from the Journal Section because this section does not concentrate on the Ants or the other animals that are being kept, this section focuses on the progress of the build.

And is there a finalised way to heat it yet? A heatmat isn't an option

It's an exact fit! wouldn't be fit for purpose otherwise in my view, a rubber washer could be added and we tried this but it OCD ruled it out as it was unsightly and not required! lol
We pull and plug if we want to detach the pods and add more. In time we'll do a three/four extension port pod. The bars have been added high 8cm up from the base to allow for substrate and fungal growth, in the trial we had sticks leading to these but they found it quicker to climb the sides quicker.

Sean this could definitely be the housing of choice for Leaf Cutters outwith public displays in the future. I am currently writing an article for the most widely read exotics magazine. It will be a major piece about keeping Leaf Cutters in captivity. If you would like I will include the specs for this and recommend you as the supplier. I would need very good pictures of the set up though. Any with ants in it? Publication of this would be around March time.

I love the look Sean but not white over hang in the tub? Is this easily shortened and why is it so long?
Also can I ask has it been used for any significant time? Many tubs I used over a few months developed lots of hairline cracks at the joins.

Hi hi, limited battery life so quick answers until I get home in 7 hours..

Heating the unit- same as TheAntstore
Connections- 4cm internal White stoppers come off, so could be glued if required, not recommended as you'll not be able to add additional pods.
Andrew- yes please! Will do some better pictures over Christmas :)
Potential cracking- the pods are moulded from one piece with 5mm thick base to avoid cracks or seems.

Have a fANTastic day people! Xxx

Finished! Hinges glued in place and awaiting a road test kick around the house! The holes are 2cm wide in sides and the unit can be submerged in water up to 5cm should you wish to heat it that way! :) each unit is vented and we have a left Atta pod or right. Extension pods coming soon! These will go on the website with better pics over the next few days. Image

Like this a lot. I will be very interested in hearing any feedback from anyone who gets one from you. But as far as I can see you could be on a winner there.

From the 20 pics I've researched they don't, they just appear to be in very warm rooms and raised up on shelves. Ours won't fall apart if stood in water as a heating method as the are moulded bases with no joins. :) thanks for the comments btw! :)
