Re: Daubz Atta cephalotes
I'm just going to add to this thread how i introduced my new ants and fungus to my existing colony, I was told by Andrew to add one pot one night and the second pot 24hrs later and to remove all the large workers, I did this with the first pot of fungus and ants and then i left it 24hrs. When i added the second fungus and workers rather than killing all the large workers ( i killed a few) i separated them into another tub, then added the fungus and smaller workers to the existing colony. I left the colony for about 3 hours and watched them closely to make sure the transition had gone well with no aggression, after this time i added the larger workers 2-3 at a time into the colony, watching them closely so if there was any aggression i could remove them straight away, luckily there wasnt any problems and over the rest of the night i introduced around 20 large workers into the colony. I told Andrew this and he thought the rest of you may want to know about this.

I think thats quite significant. I will try this next time and if it is repeatable I will change my advice to this as a standard practice. Nice one!

They're very busy again today cutting bramble, an unknown leaf from the woods near by( i will post a photo to see if someone can name it) but mainly spotted laurel, ive noticed they are adding a lot more leaves to the first fungus i put in, they're tending to the 2nd fungus but only adding a small amount of leaves to it.

Re: Daubz Atta cephalotes

So this is my plan for my 4ft fish tank, 2 fungus gardens and a large feeding area, the fungus gardens will be 20cm 5 sided cubes,im going to keep the front of the cubes open. I could go bigger with the fungus gardens but i dont want the fungus to get bigger than that, my main setup will have 30cm cubes so this way it will make it easier when i have to move the fungus into my main setup.
