I would, lid on upside down and leave about an inch open at one end. The groove on the lid acts as a back stop you will notice. This helps maintain a humid climate around the fungus when you open the lid to feed them. I'd only use one box and feed directly on the lid.

You can see the lid and the groove back stop I'm on about on this page http://www.leafcuttingants.com/www.leaf ... ?f=13&t=24
Think your using smaller boxes but will be just the same-a little stick helps to. The mesh wasn't needed, actually rusted
Your not going to be able to see through the lid without lifting it unless you have another thermostat and heat mat as the condensation with form under the stewart box lid.
It's nice to be able to open the fish tank lid and see what's going on

I'll leave them for a day or 2 without opening the lid too much. I see the groove on my kid too so when ants arrive will copy your setup

THEYVE ARRIVED The queen was completely still when they arrived as they were quite cold, but after they've all been placed into the setup she's a bit more active now and moving her antenna etc.
Lots of fungus, lovely colony from Andrew
Will take pictures when they've settled it

Re: Formica's First Atta.
They're dumping quite a lot of the fungus into the water, does this mean it's dead?

The ants have dumped loads of rubbish I'm the water, mostly dead fungus and loads of old leaves. I've took a few net fulls off the top as they could've made a bridge
